Zeolites - is a mountain of rock minerals crystal structure of aluminosilicate, whose main active components - clinoptilolite and montmorillonite.
The unique feature of zeolites - resistance to high temperatures, aggressive media, the effects of ionizing radiation, the selectivity of alkali, alkaline earth and some heavy metal cations large.
They are characterized by ion exchange and adsorption capacity.
Zeolite lattice are open channels merged cavities.
Channel diameters ranging from 2.8 to 8.0 angstroms.
Therefore, they are free from water and other polar molecules such as NH₃, SO₂, H₂S, CO₂, and so on.
Due to the specific structure of the zeolites have a number of useful features: adsorption - effectively adsorb different substances from gas mixtures and solutions; molecular sieves - absorbs only the appropriate size molecules; cationic - weakly connected cations and open-pore inner surfaces of the channels can be replaced by other cations; catalyst - the crystal lattice of molecules in the pores of the activation energy of some of the reactions decreases.
